Comann nam Pàrant would like to welcome you to join us for an informal chat on secondary education in Inverness. It is now 4 years since GM education was first offered at the IRA and we would appreciate feedback from parents on their experiences.

We are aware that the numbers in GM preschool and primary school are increasing year upon year and we would like to ensure that the IRA and The Highland Council are prepared for this and have the strategies for coping with this increasing demand when children reach secondary level.

We are in regular contact with Highland Council education officials and can represent parents with children at the IRA should they have any concerns or should parents and children wish to see additional or different provision from that presently offered in  Gaelic.

We believe that this move while affecting all education adversely will have a particularly negative effect on GME due to the important role classroom assistants play in supporting language acquisition and usage.
We are writing to councillors to object to this proposed cut and would urge individual parents to do so also.
This proposal will be debated at a meeting of the full council on 10 February.

Tha sinn an dòchas cuideachd gum bi leabhraichean Gàidhlig rin ceannach ann.   Bidh am bùth-obrach a' gabhail àite eadar 10 agus 12 Disathairne anns an Rùm Coimhearsnachd, BSGI agus tha cùram-chloinne ri fhaighinn ma tha sin a dhìth oirbh.  Leig fios thugam cho luath sa ghabhas ma tha sibh son dol ann.  

There are one or two places still available for the Comann nam Pàrant Parental workshop this Saturday which is about resources for families with children in Gaelic medium and will inlcude a presentation on the BBC Alba website. We also hope to have Gaelic books available to purchase.   The workshop is from 10 til 12 in the Community Room at BSGI and there is childcare available if required.   Please let me know asap if you would like to attend the workshop and if childcare is required.

Brian O hEadhra will be running another workshop on Gaelic music and song on the 8th May. We also have a new workshop on the 12 June. John Galloway, a parent from Plockton who runs parental workshops for local authorities, will be speaking about support materials for parents - books, games, websites, DVDs, CDRoms and more. On the same date Una MacDonald, who works for BBCAlba will with with us to demonstrate the resources available on the BBCAlba website and how to make the best use of these. We also hope on the 12th June to have a selection of Gaelic books available to buy. Tia Thomson from "Sgrìobhadh sa Sgìre" (a joint initiative between the Highland council and the Gaelic Books Council) will be present. Therefore, if you are interested in these workshops, please return the form as soon as possible.   We would like to thank the parents who have attended the workshops we have held so far, They have been well-attended and very successful. We apologise again to those registered for the workshop on Gaelic Games which unfortunately had to be cancelled - we will try and re-organise this workshop and will let you know when it will be.

We only found out at the start of the week that the person due to do the workshop was no longer able to. Attempts to find a replacement have been unsuccessful.  Please accept our apologies for this and for the short notice. There will be two further workshops this term which will be advertised through the school and on the website. I hope that you will be able to attend these and that you have enjoyed the series of workshops this far.
